By definition, a company is defined by the attributes of the leader. The leader could be a CEO, a regional Managing Director, a Business Unit Director or perhaps Regional Manager. , dependent on the size of the business. Correspondingly, the customer services experience, or the approach to innovation, or the way that the individuals care for a business are defined in the same way.

As a company becomes more and more formed, there is a danger that the thoughts within the business start to converge. Situations are paralysed into the same dimensions and models as before and the company appears to be stagnant or dormant. The real danger though is when the paralyses is so great that this is not seen by the business. The paralyses leads to converged creation of being in ‘their own world living within their own creation and by their rules’.

Many will know that my passion is in driving innovation and collaboration to innovation within business and individuals. This type of paralysis is not conducive to innovation and so the challenge for you today in your role, in your company now, is to seek external view on your world, to explore the exact opposite of your thoughts and you may be very very surprised at what breakthroughs this leads you to.

Enjoy playing.

I am on the train again and it is a great place.

I caught the 06:18 from my station and caught the London Midland to Birmingham. Getting the tickets was a smooth process, getting a seat was simple, the tickets were inspected efficiently, so everything was good.

Pulling into the destination station and the conductor came on the tannoy and wished everyone alighting a fantastic weekend and if they should be going to the cinema to think about Thomas Edison who today celebrates his anniversary of the projection lamps used in cinemas.

Ok – so I am not going to validate whether this is the case, and I have no knowledge to dispute this but

WELL DONE London Midland for the experience.

WELL DONE Conductor for making a difference and doing that little bit extra.

It is an “I wonder” morning this morning as I listen to the news.

Perhaps it could be that I am still despondent about the poor support for British politics as demonstrated by the 30% turn out in the recent local elections, or the Euro debt crisis that appears to run frequently in our news.

A Chinese proverb suggests that

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

To me, this typifies the thoughts that I have about skill acquisition and personal, team, organisation and country development. We should be encouraging people to grow, we should be enticing the satisfaction of motivation from all levels of people that are engaged, and not continue to create a reward structure focused on our future wealth. For any avoidance of doubt, my definition of wealth is not just about financial return, but having the individual, the community, the region and the country participating in enhancing and extending our sustainable planet. This touches on working to eliminate poverty (for it is a man-made commodity), and empowering individuals, community, regions, and countries to take difficult decisions quickly to achieve the goal.

As a wider society, we need to encourage people to want to make a difference. To extend themselves and be empowered to do their great things.

Montaigne wrote

“When good health and a fine sunny day smile at me, I am quite debonair
Give me an ingrowing toenail and I am touchy, bad tempered and unapproachable”

I wonder then whether we should help people to eliminate the ingrowing toenail where we are experiencing the reaction to the ‘stuff’ going on around us, and encourage more sunny days.

Ok – so how many of us have in the past spent hours filing our emails in neat folders so that we can find them later.

Big time saving tip for you – stop doing this. Instead try an approach that I have adopted for about the last 2 months thereby saving me a lot of time.

Follow these 3 steps

Leave all you emails in the inbox

Use the search function to find what you are looking for

If you get a lot of similar emails such as purchase order, or acknowledgements, configure a rule to handle this for you automatically.

Just saved you hours each week!
